Summary

After a dark night of mourning over the loss of his wife, Tim wakes in the wrong place. Instead of his home, he finds himself in a dilapidated building. Worse, he quickly discovers that he's not alone...

Horror has found a place in VR gaming that really moves things up a level in terms of immersion. It enables developers to lean more heavily on suspense and atmosphere, forgoing the reliance on action mechanics that earlier horror games have leaned on. Home Sweet Home is a first-person supernatural fright-fest that has you creeping through a broken and forboding house, with dark spirits drawn from Thai folklore and myths lurking in the walls.

With no weapons to hand you'll need to rely on your wits. There are puzzles to solve, but more often than not survival is a matter of stealth (aka running for your life).

Even the quieter moments come loaded with the creeping sense that you're just being lulled into a false sense of security. The game constantly keeps you on edge, with rooms that will change around you and bloodcurdling threats that let you know you have no control in this world.

Sound plays a big part in the game design. With no weapons available to you this is a game of stealth, and the sound of footsteps padding sinisterly towards you is as important as any visual clue you might see on screen or through your VR goggles.

Home Sweet Home can be played either with PSVR or just on your screen. Either way, you're in for a long dark night...
