Summary

It's time to go back to Elsweyr, a land that hasn't been explored by an Elder Scrolls game since Arena in 1994. Fortunately/unfortunately, at the moment we enter it in the latest expansion of The Elder Scrolls Online not only does it have a lot of the exotic cat race, the Khajit - it also has a bit of a dragon problem. What's more, the dragons aren't just an airborne pest that needs controlling - they're very, very old and they're hungry for revenge.

There's tons of content to explore here, with Bethesda looking to keep you busy for a good few hundred hours. The land itself is mostly desertified, but it also has lush grasslands for you to explore as well as a spot of forest to keep things interesting.

There's also a new class to get to grips with for the first time since Morrowind - the necromancer. Despite the fact that Bethesda has made it clear that necromancy is bad juju, fans have been hankering after it and the development team has delivered. There are three skill lines - 'Reaper', which lets you buff and conjure swarms of minions; 'Bone Tyrant', which lets you create bone walls, bone slaves, bone spikes and probably some other things made of bone; 'Living Death', a support skill that lets you resurrect and heal other players.

Existing players will be able to jump straight in for level-appropriate content while new and returning players are catered for too with a new tutorial and starter area that are playable without having completed previous chapters (though the base game is included, as are Summerset and Morrowind, should you want to have a nosey around).

Whatever you do, though, it's on you to band together with other players and protect Elsweyr from the flying menace!
