If MotorStorm's new to you – do not expect the sleek, road-bound simulation found in the likes of Gran Turismo or Forza. If that's what you're looking for, you're in for a shock. Like in it's predecessor, the racing in Pacific Rift is brutal, fast and ugly. Much of the time it's not about taking the best racing line – it's about staying on the track and staying in one piece.
The action whisks you away from the desert location of the first game and off to a tropical island. You'll race a variety of challenges over 16 stages, broken down into Earth, Air, Water and Fire zones, taking you from the dizzying heights of mountaintops to the mucky slop of the valley floor.
Eight different kinds of vehicle are on offer - ATVs, rally cars, buggies, motorbikes, race trucks, mudpluggers, big rigs and the new addition of monster trucks – complete with crazy dinosaur heads in some cases. You'll also be able to take out a spot of aggression on the vehicles around you thanks to new attack options, giving you the ability to ram which ever unlucky racer happens to be next to you. Well, we say 'unlucky', but don't think for a second that the AI won't do the same to you given the faintest ghost of a chance.
You won't be stuck playing against the AI, however. Online multi-player makes a return, to start with. Crucially, however, developer Evolution Studios has included split-screen mode for up to four players, meaning you can tear up your mates from the same room. << less
