Summary

If you enjoy throwing yourself down mountains with nothing but a flimsy piece of plastic stuck to your feet, this may just be the game you've been waiting for all your life.

SSX Blur has all the traits you've come to know and love in the series: ridiculously big air, insane tricks and high speed carnage. What singles SSX Blur out from its peers is the Wii control system.

Where many Wii games centred around going fast have simply turned the Wii Remote on its side and utilised it for tilt control, SSX Blur uses the whole caboodle. The Nunchuck is your tool for carving. Tilt it to carve, then use the analogue stick to lean into the turn. The Wii Remote controls, well, everything else. Your jumps, grinds and anything else you can think of works from simple movement and button combinations.

The single-player SSX experience comes in two forms: quickplay and tournament. As you might expect, quickplay plunges you straight into the action for short, sharp bursts of play, while tournament mode offers the deeper experience of progressing your rider through a competition. These are complimented by two multiplayer modes. A split screen allows you to race head to head, while a turn-based mode demands that you rack up the maximum number of points to beat your opponent's score.

Everything else you'd expect from an SSX game is there. Big slopes, bigger jumps and a high-octane soundtrack all come as standard. And, of course, the powder's always excellent.

If you didn't manage to get away for some winter fun in the mountains, go ahead and treat yourself to the next best thing. << less
