Sega GT on the PC? Sega’s decision to develop for multiple platforms is one of the biggest blessings to the video game world. Sega GT is unashamedly similar to Polyphony’s Gran Turismo and that works in its favour. Sega GT is one of the better racing games to come to the PC in a long time. Gentlemen, start your engines.
The game structure initially involves proving your driving skills by attempting several licence tests. Tests usually mean completing a track within a certain time, and with a little practice, you’ll breeze through these challenges. Once you have a licence in your possession, you can buy a car and enter the racing modes. If you win, you’ll be rewarded with prize money that can be used to either upgrade your car or save up to buy new vehicles.
Tuning your car and maximising the performance and handling capabilities is of paramount importance in Sega GT. There are over 200 cars available, and if you know how to tune them, you can make them respond to your driving style. Sega GT has a great physics engine and simulates a surprising amount of real world data. Changing settings on your car will affect under and oversteer and you can of course trade grip for top speed.
When Sega GT was released on the Dreamcast it sold remarkably well, but ultimately it was limited by the hardware. This PC version is more visually impressive because it can tap into the power of your 3D card. Hundreds of cars, ample tracks, great playability and good graphics equal one fine example of a racing game. If the idea of racing a tuned Viper or Skyline, hurtling at ridiculous speeds around over 21 tracks against competitive computer drivers sounds like fun, Sega GT is for you.
