Take-Two Acquires Mafia Developer

2K moves into the Czech Republic

Take-Two has announced the acquisition of Illusion Softworks, the company behind the Mafia, Hidden & Dangerous and Vietcong franchises.

The company will be absorbed into Take-Two's 2K publishing label as 2K Czech (because, you know, it's based in the Czech Republic). The 200-strong studio is already working on Mafia II for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 with 2K.

2K's president, Christoph Hartmann, said, "Adding 2K Czech to our network of development studios demonstrates our strong commitment to creating great franchises and building world-class creative teams. The 2K Czech team is responsible for several very innovative and highly-regarded franchises and we look forward to continuing to develop new and existing IP together."

2K has been going from strength to strength of late. With titles such as The Darkness and BioShock under its belt, the publisher has seen strong sales and positive critical feedback.

Meanwhile, SPOnG looks forward to the day when there's only one games company left, going by the name of Nintenubiactisonysoftivision17...

That's good for them. Besides I haven't played Mafia yet, I'll have to backtrack and do so. I'm all for supporting games that are pushing talented folk forward.

...A wholly-owned subsidiary of EA, a transnational soveriegn corpornation.

Speaking of EA...three words and a single digit number. Racing. Destruction. Set. 2.

We have the technology. We can make it bigger...better...faster. That would totally. rule.
